But behind the beautiful facades remains not only boring and ugly, but also interesting, unusual, characteristic. It is this feature of our perception that is the subject of a series of works by the French artist Zacharie Gaudrillot - Roy, who showed the viewer the facades behind which there is nothing.
Photographer Zachariah Godrillo-Roy is known for his wonderful urban landscapes and dynamic photos from the life of large and small cities around the world. But this time he decided to "hooliganize", but rather, on the contrary, to philosophize, and removed the buildings with the help of a photo editor, leaving only the facades.
The author rightly noted that all over the world, tourists see only a small part of reality, not particularly interested in the realities of the country and the city they visited. They bring from their travels not memories of people, culture, customs and everyday life, as it was once, but pictures of the facades of architectural monuments, memories of them and a standard set of souvenirs.
The guides, whose task is to introduce visitors to the sights, fully support them in this superficiality, running past monuments and places of worship, but not going into details. The photographer offers to look at the cities from this point of view, and think about it. Here they are-the faces of the cities that we need and is the volume, texture and essence important for us?
In modern tourism, there is another extreme – fake attractions created specifically to make money on naive lovers of places of worship.
