This married couple is just the case. The most amazing thing is that during the voyage they managed to officially marry, and most importantly - to give birth to three babies who joined the team on board the yacht.
Read on about the amazing journey of 8 years and about the everyday life of an unusual family living on the waves.
The couple, who set sail from the UK back in 2011, continues to be at sea until now. During this time, they managed to officially marry and give birth to three children.
Jess Lloyd-Mostyn is 36 years old. She had never even sailed on a boat until she jokingly suggested to her boyfriend, and now husband, James, to go around the world on a yacht.
The idea appealed to both and, less than a year later, the couple left Falmouth and went on a journey of a lifetime. For 8 years, they have visited 36 countries and covered 42,000 kilometers and do not intend to return home.
The adventurers quit their jobs, and rented out their house and apartment in London in order to have money for expenses during the trip. With the accumulated funds, they bought a 13-meter yacht "Crossbow", which cost 35,000 pounds (3 million rubles). The yacht needed repairs.Jess suffers from seasickness, but this did not prevent her and her husband from falling in love with a new way of existence. They liked life on the waves so much that during the trip they decided to have children.
The first daughter, Rocket, was born in Mexico for the second year of travel. She is now five years old. The second son, 3-year-old Indigo, was born in New Zealand in 2015. The third baby, Outem, was born in London in 2018.
Jess and James teach the older children themselves, but they do not follow the school curriculum, but focus on "learning by interests".
Why the couple decided to leave everything and radically change their lifestyle, they themselves do not fully know. It was a spontaneous decision, which the husband and wife, however, do not regret. At the very beginning, the family wanted to travel for two and a half years, and then return to London with new impressions.
The young people crossed the Atlantic Ocean, spent several months in the Caribbean and sailed to Panama, where they decided to create a real family. Few of the "eternal wanderers" dare to have children, but they took a chance.
The baby was born three weeks ahead of schedule and weighed only 2,325 kg, but was completely healthy. The couple stayed in Mexico for five weeks, waiting for relatives from the UK who flew in to see the newborn.
When Rocket was 8 months old, the family set sail from the coast of Mexico and headed for New Zealand, calling on the way to the islands of the Pacific Ocean that met on the way.
If a family needs to travel very long distances, they hire people to help on board.
Jess claims that the courts are the best place where children can grow and develop. There is no furniture with sharp corners and other objects dangerous for kids on the yacht.
The speed at which James' yacht and Jess moves on waves, usually does not exceed 8 km/h. Parents-travelers teach children to swim and have life jackets on board. An important detail on the deck is the disposal of garbage. With three small children on a yacht, this becomes a real problem. To reduce the amount of waste, Jess uses diapers instead of diapers.
The family covers the travel expenses from the money they receive from the tenants of the apartment and house in London. In addition, the couple runs a blog, does freelancing and photography, which also replenishes their family budget.
Jess admits that they live very modestly, cooking pies and bread from leftovers. Despite the fact that they pay the mortgage for London real estate, they try to save money for an emergency.
They spent 60,000 pounds (about 5 million rubles) on repairs and maintenance of the vessel. The amount a family spends on living varies depending on where the family is staying. In total, they spend 20,000 pounds (about 1.7 million rubles) a year on everything necessary for their existence. The family tries to lead an environmentally friendly lifestyle. They do not buy anything extra, but they do not feel a lack of anything. There is no baby cot and cradle on the yacht, because there is not enough space for them.
In 2014, the couple got married in Fiji. They held a modest ceremony, the only guest at which was their little daughter Rocket. On their way to New Zealand, they decided to have a second child.
Jessie gave birth to her son Indigo at home, in New Zealand. The birth took place in the water, in the bathroom. Traveling by sea with four people has become even more interesting.
Inside the yacht there are two double cabins, a wheelhouse, a room where the family lives, and a galley. All crew members claim that they have enough of this space for a comfortable stay. The yacht has a dinghy, a kayak for two and an inflatable boat with oars.
Travelers spend a lot of time on land exploring different countries, and children play with local guys.
Jess and James teach the kids everything themselves, right on board the yacht. They do not follow the standard school curriculum, but conduct classes based on their interests. The main thing that parents are trying to teach kids is vital things: for example, how to bake bread, how much flour and water it takes, and so on.After the birth of Indigo, the family headed to Southeast Asia. The couple decided to give birth to their third baby and landed on land in Indonesia, from where they headed home to London to visit their home. In October last year, the girl Outem was born.
The family plans to go on a trip again in a month, so as not to settle at home for good, but to return to their usual life among turquoise waves and bright sunlight. Their way this time will be to Malaysia and Thailand.
The love boat of these guys, it seems, will never break on everyday life. An unusual lifestyle on the waves further cements their union and three wonderful babies are proof of this. No matter what storms are raging overboard, the main thing is that the yacht of family happiness is always calm and cozy.
Would you risk giving up everything and going on a long journey?
