Unofficially, they were called "French postcards". However, sending these cards in the mail was illegal, which is why they exchanged secret. Creating such images could be quite a profitable business for photographers who used pseudonyms to avoid damaging his career and reputation and not get in trouble with the law. The identity of almost all models "French postcards" remains unknown.
