Bold, beautiful, different: the faces of young Americans in the project of immigrant

Photographer Marie Tomanova of Czech Republic has continuously lived in new York for seven years. The past four years, she filmed the faces of people, trying to create a single portrait of the Americans. The result was mosaic, which gives an idea about the youth of new York.

How was the project "Young American"

First Czech photographer did not have a clear idea about the purpose of the project. She liked to take portraits of people. The idea of the project "Young American" emerged in the conversation with the curator, art historian Thomas Bigcalm. Examining her work, he suggested the name for a series of pictures. Thus was born the idea to create a single portrait of American youth.

Marie Talmanova removed for the project, more than two hundred portraits. She mostly took photos of strangers who met at a crowded party. Some of the characters found in social networks. Each photo session begins with communication. The conversation touched on the theme of life in NYC, dreams and plans for the future. After that, Marie Talmanova started shooting, trying to Express in the portrait of the dreams and aspirations of the person.

The girl worked hard for the move overseas. For many years he never saw his family because of visa issues. Marie Talman did not leave the feeling of loneliness, of isolation. She tried to find solace in the pictures, but it did not help. Often, the photographer doubted the correctness of the choice made. Things are going fine now and at the end of next year she hopes to go home to see family.

According to Czech immigrants, new York is like a huge melting furnace. The portraits are of young men and women of different nationalities, races and social status. Marie Tolman seeks to present the inner beauty of a person, not his appearance. She believes that the inner content of the soul body perfectly, even if the skin is covered with pimples. Judging by the unabating interest in her work, she succeeded.
