One warm summer day, a very strange incident happened to a little French boy named Joseph. When he was swimming in the sea, he held his breath and lowered his head under the water, when he suddenly felt an icy cold penetrate into his stomach. The boy was very scared and ran out to the shore, but then another surprise awaited him: water began to flow out of his anus.

Joseph's mother, who witnessed this mysterious phenomenon, immediately took the child to the doctor. At the hospital, the woman was convinced that her son was all right. It's just that, as it turned out, he has phenomenal control over the abdominal muscles. This allowed him to control the emission of intestinal gases, to draw air or water into the rectum, and release them with a powerful jet from his anus. The distance of such "shots" sometimes reached several meters.

After graduating from school, Joseph worked for a while in a bakery, and then went to serve in the French army. There, his colleagues learned about his unusual talent. So Joseph even began to give them a kind of performance, and when he returned home, he decided to test his strength on a real stage.

In 1887, Joseph Pujol performed for the first time at the theater in Marseille, and a few years later he managed to conquer the Moulin Rouge itself. Having mastered his skill perfectly, a man could not only collect water with his anus and spew back "fountains", but also make sounds of different tonality. Thanks to this, he was nicknamed "Le Petoman" for the rest of his life, which means "Fart Man"in French.

With the help of that very place, Joseph could play the flute, imitate the sounds of cannon shots, blow out candles located at a distance of several meters, and even perform the Marseillaise! The performances of "Le Petoman" were attended by such famous personalities as Sigmund Freud, King Leopold II of Belgium, King of Great Britain and Ireland Edward VII.

During his performances, there was always hysterical laughter in the halls, and tears appeared in people's eyes (of course, not because of the smell). For those who doubted his talent, Joseph gave individual concerts for a fee, at which he performed with a bare ass. Once Leopold II himself visited such a performance.

But, despite the fact that Joseph brought "Moulin Rouge" a lot of money (at that time he earned even more than the main prima cabaret), soon their cooperation stopped. In 1895, "Le Petoman" founded its own small theater called "Pompadour".

One of the most popular performances in his theater was a children's show, where he introduced children to all the voices of animals and birds with the help of the power of his priest.

At the beginning of the XX century, the Pompadour Theater was closed. This happened after Joseph's 2 sons returned from the front with disabilities, and another of his sons was put behind bars. At the same time, the artist lost interest in performing arts and returned to Marseille to his native baking business.

In 1945, at the age of 88, Joseph Pujol died and was buried in the La Valette cemetery. Representatives of the Sorbonne tried to negotiate with the relatives of "Le Petoman" about the study of his remains and even offered them a tidy sum for this. However, none of them agreed, so Joseph's body still rests intact in the grave.
