He was tied to a bed and hardly ever left the house. His wife, 43-year-old Maureen, turned into a nurse, constantly caring for her husband. The man pulled himself together and gave up fast food in favor of healthy food in order to establish an intimate life. The former fat man has changed beyond recognition, and now the family has found happiness.
The fattest Briton turned into a slim and fit man thanks to the strength of will and for the love of his wife. After surgery to reduce the volume of the stomach, which cost 15,000 pounds (about 1.6 million rubles), and a strict diet, the man now weighs 95 kg.
Paul began rapidly gaining weight after suffering a spinal injury in 2010. Each of his legs swelled to a meter in circumference. He felt like a wreck. Maureen had to take care of her husband, raise three children on her own, and still have time to work. For many years, the couple could not sleep together in the same bed. After the Briton lost weight, their intimate life improved.
Because of his weight, Paul was unable to shower, eat, or go to the toilet on his own. A special wheelchair was ordered for him from Denmark. The man's psyche was also disturbed. He even tried to commit suicide. Paula's sister started raising money for a stomach volume reduction surgery.
During the preparation for the operation, the fattest Briton went on a strict diet, reducing the number of calories consumed to 1,800 per day. Thus, he managed to lose weight to 290 kg in just a few months. Despite this, doctors said that he could die on the surgical table, so Paul continued to lose weight further, until in 2018, his weight reached the mark of 215 kg.
The return to normal life was gradual. First, the man had a mini-operation, after which he lost 6 kg in a month. Paul was able to continue his college studies, but he still found it difficult to walk. The Briton got up from his wheelchair, began to move around with a walker, then on crutches, and soon — with a cane. After three months, he was able to move without support. Friends applauded when they saw Paul walking down the street on his own.
The former fat man continued to observe a strict diet. When his weight dropped to 158 kg, he was able to ride a bicycle. Within two years, Paul lost another 64 kg. After that, the man was removed 5 kg of excess skin.
Paul now works as a tour guide. He is grateful to his family and doctors who saved his life. Maureen is glad to be able to spend more time with her husband. They walk a lot together, and their married life has become the same as before.
Excess weight burdens life, but for true love it is not a hindrance. A British man moved to the US to take care of his beloved – the fattest woman in the world.
