Style icon of the 60's Edie Sedgwick: what killed the flamboyant Muse of Andy Warhol

This extraordinary woman lived a short life and left the world long ago. But it was enough that her style is still copied, and about her life filmed movie. This year the rebellious Muse of Andy Warhol would have turned 77 years old, but she, apparently, had not planned to live so long, and burned fast and bright.

Reading in childhood "Alice in Wonderland" Carroll, Edie Sedgwick realized that this book is about her. The love for this work she has carried through his life and even planned to play Alice in the movie. She was born Edith "Edie" Mintern Sedgwick in a respectable Californian family, with incomes much higher than average. Her parents left everything to their daughter felt happy: money, connections, a luxurious estate in Santa Barbara. But his family of eight children, could not be called prosperous, as one of Servicom pursued evil — mental problems.

Father Edie, Francis Sedgwick, suffered from bipolar mental disorder, doctors are not advised to have his children. The probability that the disease will be inherited was very high. That is exactly what happened. Three of his eight children tragically died due to issues with drugs and alcohol or commit suicide.

Children in the family is not spoiled. Later Eddie recalled that his father was a real tyrant, and all members of the family, despite the wealth contained in the "black body". Friends at the University, recalled that at first she seemed confused and helpless, everyone wanted to show her concern, something to help. But care everyone understands differently, and probably someone started to provide the young student of banned substances.

At the University Sedgwick could not stay long — just a year after start of study Edie had inherited from a relative's apartment in new York and without hesitation moved there, leaving Cambridge to nerds with glasses. The girl had big plans: she dreamed of becoming a model and actress and was eager to dive into Bohemian life in the nation's capital of luxury and of the arts.

With the money Eddie was sparse — the parents did not spoil their offspring. But very soon the need Sedgwick started Dating and began to live large. She dined in the best restaurants, travelled around the city in limousines and changed every day outfits. At this time, drugs have come to occupy an important place in a girl's life — they helped Edie shy by nature, feel confident.

Andy Warhol and Edie's to be

At a party in 1965, Sedgwick met Andy Warhol — artist, provocateur and a rebel. She struck the imagination of genius, grace and defenseless beauty. Their first meeting Warhol described as follows: "She danced like an ancient Egyptian. Beautifully, gracefully inclined his head. So could anybody else. People called this dance is the "Sedgewick".

Perhaps if Warhol wasn't gay, he would be in love with Sedgwick, but women were interested in the outrageous artist as a person. EDI, due to its eccentricity, has occupied an important place in the life of Warhol. She became his friend, Advisor and Muse. The pair often appeared together in public, and their phone conversations lasted for hours.

Warhol filmed a short art house movies and Sedgwick played a key role. These pictures were not shown to the General public they were addressed to the environment of Warhol and showed them in his art space. Despite this, in the Bohemian creative environment Sedgwick was quickly elevated to the rank of new icons and literally worshipped.

Andy Warhol claimed that Edie is like him and could even play him in the movie. The girl actually chose the unusual style and hair cut like a man. Native chestnut color hair she cheated on silver with dye spray. So her and remember the world — a fragile blonde with huge eyes adorned with false eyelashes and a boyish haircut.In new York Sedgewick shone not only on the hangouts of creative people — she boldly stepped into the world of high fashion, announcing himself as the model. This was facilitated by the introduction of EDI editor in chief of Vogue, Diana Vreeland, who immediately appreciated the style girl and her extraordinary appearance. Photo Sedgwick began to appear first in the pages of the flagship fashion, and then in other American glossy magazines.

After that, Sedgwick met another rock star Bob Nuvita. Their love affair was not long — Bob very quickly tired friend, constantly living in a drugged stupor, and he left her. Gradually deteriorated relations with the closest to Eddie man Warhol. In Sedgwick played ambitions, she believed that Andy puts it in his paintings as a mockery, exploiting and preventing development.Soon Warhol, who was egocentric and never tolerated tantrums and scenes, tired of the accusations and scandals, and he is forever struck Sedgwick of their projects, and later from the life. During the filming in the room of Chelsea hotel, where Edie had lived, there was a fire, and the actress has got with burns to hospital. After the course of treatment, Sedgwick decided to leave new York and start a new life in his native California.

But a new, bright life has not turned out. The reason for this was the drugs that continued to use EDI. She tried to fight his addiction, but the poison was too important in her fate. After moving to California Sedgwick often found in psychiatric hospitals and drug treatment clinics than at home.

The last night of his life Edie Sedgwick held himself accustomed to — at a noisy party. It was an event with a fashion show in Santa Barbara and the subsequent Banquet.
