He persuaded the bosses of his girlfriend Jody, who works in the fire brigade, to send her to a false call — to rescue a guy who allegedly had a ring stuck on his finger. Imagine Jody's surprise when she arrived at the call and saw Mark kneeling down on one knee, offering her to marry him.

A video of Mark's proposal was posted on the West Midlands County Fire Department's Facebook page, where Jodie's colleagues congratulate the couple on an important event. Many commentators joined in the congratulations, but not everyone was ready to share their joy with Mark and Jody.

"What kind of senseless waste of resources? Usually, if someone makes a false call, a fine is imposed on him," a certain Matt McCartney commented on this. "My taxes went to a marriage proposal. A disgrace. You are putting people's lives in danger!" — Lee Caufield echoed him.
However, Chris Gauntlet, the head of the fire station where Jody works, responded to all these comments: "I must assure you that permission has been obtained for such a step. In addition, the departure of the guys did not affect their work in any way. Everything was under control."

Mark and Jody have been together for six years. They have two children, 3-year-old Mia and 11-month-old Harper. Jody, who has been working in the fire department for 11 years, says she was delighted with Mark's act. "I didn't suspect anything. I thought it would be a normal day. When we were approaching the place, I noticed another fire truck on the other side of the street and thought that something was wrong here. And then I saw Mark and finally figured out what the hell was going on here!"— said Jody.

"I do not know why he decided to do it this way. You know, when you work as a firefighter, you are ready for anything that can happen every day. But it was one of the most unusual days in my entire career!"

Social media users congratulated Jody and Mark. "How romantic! I wish you both all the best! Our rescue service performs a difficult mission every day, so it's doubly nice to see how happy one of her employees is!" Sandy Rudge wrote on Facebook. "People whining in the comments about the senseless waste of resources need at least a little romance in their lives!" — says Emma Jervis.
