Mr. goodwrench: the Spaniard spoiled the picture of the 17th century, hand in its restoration

Painting of the Baroque era has become another victim of the inept hands of the restorers. A portrait of the virgin Mary, Dating from the 17th century, was in the private collection of Spanish art lover. The owner gave it to the restoration of the master to repair furniture, paying for 1 200 euros (about 93 000). The collector was shocked to see what sad sack turned Baroque painting.

The painting of the 17th century was hopelessly corrupt pseudo-master. Experts say that the restorer tried twice to recreate the picture, but in the end her even more disfigured.

Eight years ago a similar case occurred in the Spanish town of Borja. There is a local handyman tried to restore the image of Christ on the wall of the Church, turning it into a "Fluffy Jesus". Fresco ECCE Homo was painted in 1930 by the artist Elias Garcia Martinez.

Experts urge that the restoration of works of art entrusted only to real professionals. Now the Spanish laws permit to do restoration even to those who have no proper education and necessary skills. As a result, humanity is losing priceless masterpieces. Critics are asking the state to pay attention to this problem and to resolve the issue with the restoration to preserve the cultural heritage.
