Pictolic has found for you 10 interesting facts about Oscar that you most likely did not know.
10 PHOTOS
1. The largest number of awards.
Most Oscar statuettes, or rather eleven each, managed to win three films - these are Ben Hur, Titanic, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. (Photo: press releases).
2. The longest speech in the history of the Oscars.
Oscar winners who managed to win such a prestigious award, according to the regulations, have only 45 seconds to deliver their acceptance speech. However, prior to the introduction of this restriction, there were also very long speeches in the history of the awarding of the statuettes, such as the speech by Greer Garson (center of the photo), which lasted almost seven minutes. 3. The most unusual thank-you speeches.
Everyone knows that brevity is the sister of talent. Alfred Hitchcock and William Holden, having received prestigious awards, expressed their gratitude in one word, saying only “Thank you! Whereas Gwyneth Paltrow (pictured) uttered this word as many as 23 times in her acceptance speech. (Photo: Shutterstock).
4. Posthumous Oscars.
Only two actors have received Oscars since their deaths. Interestingly, both of them were Australians: Heath Ledger, who was awarded an Oscar in 2009, and Peter Finch in 1976. (Photo: frame from the film).
5. The biggest losers.
Deborah Kerr, Thelma Ritter, and Glenn Close (pictured) have been nominated for six Academy Awards but never won the coveted statuette. More unlucky than them, was only Peter O'Toole, who had eight chances to receive this award, but he never managed to win a single statuette. (Photo: Shutterstock).
6. Disney is a double record holder.
Walt Disney won 25 Oscars (including 3 Honorary Oscars) out of 59 nominations (was nominated annually from 1942 to 1963). Paradoxically, Walt Disney is both the person who has received the most awards and nominations and the person who has lost the most. (Photo: AP).
7. 1 character, 2 actors, 2 Oscars.
For the only time in the history of the Oscars, two actors playing the same character each received a statuette for their roles. We are talking about the role of Vito Corleone in the movie "The Godfather", played by Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro. (Photo: Vito Corleone).
8. Plastic Oscars.
During World War II, due to the lack of metal, Oscar figurines were made from painted plastic. After the war, they could be exchanged for standard metal ones. (Photo: AP/Amy Sancetta).
9. Designed by Oscar figurines.
Cedric Gibbons (pictured with wife Dolores Del Rio), who has worked as an art director (production designer) on over 1,000 motion pictures and who has won 11 Oscars out of 39 nominations, will forever go down in history for this prestigious award as the author of the statuette's design " Oscar". 10. Oscars and a dumpster.
In 2000, 55 Oscars were stolen. A few months later, 52 of them were found in a dumpster by a man named Willie Fulgear, who was rewarded with a $50,000 cash prize and an invitation to the 2001 Academy Awards for their return. (Photo: Shutterstock).
