Iceland is a land of extreme contrasts

By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/iceland-is-a-land-of-extreme-contrasts.htmlThe unique beauty of Iceland often attracts not only ordinary tourists, but also filmmakers who turn waterfalls and fjords into the backdrop of their films. The landscapes of this country became the setting, for example, for some scenes of Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” or the “Game of Thrones” series based on the novels of George R.R. Martin.
We offer photographs of Iceland to try to look at it through the eyes of tourists and local residents.
1. The population of all of Iceland does not exceed 325 thousand people, and partly because of this it remains one of the safest countries in the world with an extremely low crime rate and excellent medical care. Instagrams of Icelandic police officers with candy, clown noses and cheerful selfies also contribute to the image of the state as a place where nothing bad happens. At the same time, travelers are attracted, first of all, by the unique nature of the island.
The Eyjafjallajökull volcano eruption in 2010 led to a decline in tourism, and to compensate for the losses, the government supported a promotional program aimed at potential travelers. Then, for example, the video “Inspired by Iceland” was shot, which spread across the Internet in hundreds of copies.
Iceland has been called a land of extreme contrasts, a land of fire and ice: the state is home to some of the world's most active volcanoes and some of the largest glaciers in Europe. Instagram users from among locals and travelers strive to capture both in their photos.
