Healthy lifestyle at the maximum: A rich biohacker spends millions for the sake of eternal youth

Brian Johnson is a 45—year-old IT millionaire who is obsessed with the idea not just to preserve health and improve the quality of life, but to reverse the aging process and regain a young body. Bloomberg visited him and told his story.

The hero of the material said that he had assembled a team of 30 doctors who monitor his health. The rich biohacker admitted that, wanting to postpone old age, he spends at least two million dollars every year on research of his body and maintaining a youthful appearance. According to doctors, now the 45-year-old businessman has the heart of a 37-year-old, the skin of a 28-year-old and the physical form of an 18-year-old.

Brian Johnson is a successful businessman whose fortune is estimated at half a billion dollars. He lives in California with his wife and three children. By the age of 30, a native of Utah, who grew up in a large Mormon family and started selling phones, founded the company Braintree Payment Solutions. In 2013, he sold his business to Ebay Corporation for $800 million and became interested in studying his body.

Johnson has founded several biotech startups. As part of one of them, which is called Project Blueprint, a businessman is trying to reverse his biological age. To do this, he hired a team of more than 30 doctors and medical experts under the leadership of 29-year-old Oliver Zolman, a gerontologist from the University of Cambridge.

According to people from Johnson's medical team, his biological age has already decreased by at least five years. Zolman tracks at least 10 indicators for each organ of his patient. Every month, his ward also undergoes dozens of medical procedures, some of which are quite extreme and painful, and then evaluates their results with additional blood tests, MRI, ultrasound and colonoscopy. Brian Johnson took 33,537 pictures of his intestines and purchased a special device that counts the number of his erections per night.

Before going to bed, strictly at the same time, Johnson wears glasses that block blue light for two hours. He always wakes up at 5 in the morning. He conducts hour-long workouts consisting of 25 exercises daily, and he has intensive training three times a week. During the day, he takes about two dozen dietary supplements, including lycopene for artery and skin health, metformin to prevent the formation of polyps in the intestine, curcumin, black pepper and ginger root for liver enzymes, lithium for brain health, collagen and creatinine.

As for food, Johnson adheres to a strict vegan diet of vegetables, berries and nuts. In order for his body fat level to be 5-6%, he consumes 1977 calories a day from vegan food (recipes vary depending on his biological indicators).

As for whether he has any breaks in the diet, Johnson says:

After eating, he rinses his mouth with tea tree oil and applies an antioxidant gel.

To keep the skin young, Johnson tries not to expose it to sunlight, applies seven cosmetic products daily and undergoes acid peeling and laser therapy every week. In addition, he dyes his hair red.

Before dinner with a Bloomberg journalist, the millionaire warned that he had an allergic reaction to the new procedure, and his appearance may seem strange. According to the journalist, the biohacker's face looked like the face of a swollen porcelain doll. The entrepreneur explained that he was given the first of a series of fat injections, which should create a "frame" on his face and stimulate tissues to further active production of fat cells.

Among Johnson's associates is his 17-year-old son Talmage. He adopted his father's lifestyle, but with some amendments (for example, he does not grind vegetables in a blender before eating them).

Johnson was repeatedly suspected of having a mental disorder or an eating disorder, and was also called a fanatic who leads a boring and limited life. Some researchers and fans of healthy lifestyle, who studied his program, criticized the vitamins and dietary supplements promoted by him, considering them useless.

According to some reports, Johnson is thinking about more radical interventions in his health, in particular gene therapy. What he has been able to achieve seems insufficient to him.
