Engineer Gijs Schalkx has improved his motorcycle and now rides on methane. The man extracts fuel from roadside swamps and ponds. He called the invention Sloot Motor (from the Dutch "sloot" – "ditch"). Despite the fact that you will not get far and not at all fast on such fuel, it is completely safe for the environment and saves natural resources. Learn how an unusual engine works from our material.

A resident of the Netherlands, Gijs Schalks, modified the engine of a Honda GX160 motorcycle by making a hole in the air chamber through which methane enters. The inventor attached a cylinder to the hole, which serves as a fuel tank and is filled with gas. In order to start the engine, you need a small amount of gasoline, and then the engine runs on methane.

The main feature of Gijs ' invention is that he manually extracts gas from roadside swamps and ponds. It takes about eight hours to collect enough gas to fill the cylinder. This is enough for only 19 km of driving at a maximum speed of 43 km / h.

The Dutchman says that the idea to create an unusual motor came to him after he read about a fisherman using methane to fry eggs. The man also collected it by hand. Gijs adapted the concept for himself, creating a device for collecting gas, calling it a plompstation. It consists of a device that is immersed in water, and a pump with which the extracted fuel enters the tank.

Despite the fact that the Sloot Motor is a brilliant invention, it was not created as a serious alternative to electric motors or internal combustion engines. the methane engine runs at low speed, and it takes a lot of time and effort to collect gas. Gijs Schalks hopes that his idea will make people reconsider their opinion about modern technologies and try to cause less harm to the environment by reducing the amount of use of natural resources.

Amazing inventions appeared in our country back in Soviet times. Water-powered engines, a smart home and a mobile phone are just a few of the original inventions from an impressive list.
