Came from the Caucasus Blizzard raged for six days. A state with a dry climate, where the snow usually falls only in the mountains, of course, was absolutely not ready for such virasto elements.
The Blizzard that killed more than four thousand people, is considered the most deadly in history. For comparison, the most destructive tornado occurred in Bangladesh in 1989, claimed 1300 lives.
By 9 February, when the onset of snowfall has decreased significantly in the North-West and centre of the country, with snow reached three meters, and in the South snow dunes towered eight feet. Hundreds of settlements were cut off from the outside world: Blizzard cut phone lines and power lines, flooded roads.
As a result of more than a hundred villages were completely destroyed. People who had taken refuge in the houses were killed in the collapse of a roof or were buried alive. In the villages Kakkan and Kumar there was not a single survivor.
A huge number of casualties due primarily to the fact that rescuers could not come to the rescue. Almost zero visibility was not allowed to move even an helicopter. Many died from frostbite and disease, not having the necessary medicines. The temperature of the air in those days, dropped to -20 degrees Celsius.
