The recognizable features of this style are the sharp contrasts of light and shadow, the special poses of the models and the composition based on the golden ratio.
Visitors to the pizzeria behind the counter, a tired mother with a child on the subway, the owner with a cat — all these surprisingly dramatic pictures prove that art surrounds us every day.
One of the most recognizable photos in the collection was taken by Joel Goodman in Manchester during the celebration of the new year, 2016. Not only did he manage to fit the plot into the golden ratio — the man in the background is lying in the pose of an experienced model.
This photo, taken in Novosibirsk on the Day of the City, quickly spread across the Russian-speaking segment of the Internet and got into the western one. The author of the photo is Sergey Tarasov.
The picture resembles, if not the works of the Renaissance masters, then Ilya Repin's painting "Ivan the Terrible and his son Ivan on November 16, 1581".
And at the sight of this cat, we remembered Serov's "Girl with Peaches".
