2. Nirvana released Nevermind in September 1991. It was the band's second studio album. It has sold over 30 million copies worldwide, thanks in large part to the super-popular song "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Spencer Alden, the kid on the cover of this album, told MTV as a 17-year-old that he was very moved by the fact that so many people saw him naked.

The Meat Puppets also participated in the recording. Cobain died on April 5, 1994 after shooting himself with a hunting rifle. He was 27 years old. The session album was released after Cobain's death and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.

The band had by then released their third album, In Utero, and embarked on their first American tour in two years.
