The loneliest British schoolboy

Categories: Children | Europe

Ten—year-old Aron Anderson is the only student at a school on the remote Scottish island of Out Skerries. He goes to lessons alone, has lunch alone and also plays alone on the playground.

Aron dreams of becoming a fisherman like his father. He studies English, mathematics, science, cooking and labor. The school has two classrooms, a labor class, a music class and a library.

Aron's tuition costs more than 75,357 pounds a year. Both of his older brothers also went to this school, and now study in the city of Lerwick, which is two and a half hours by ship from Out-Skerries. They come home only on weekends and holidays.

Aron admits that being the only student is strange, but says that he has a lot of classes and he does not want to leave the island.
