Jury member of the Andrey Stenin International Photojournalism Competition Ruth Eichhorn noted: "We remember and appreciate the pictures, because behind the camera with which they were taken, there is a person and a personality. A great photographer can transcend reality, not just reproduce it. A good photographer can reach the hidden worlds by overcoming all obstacles."

Photojournalists are always close to their heroes, whom they captured in pictures, sometimes risking their lives to show the truth in their photo reports, their view of events or to see the price of a sports victory. The contest, organized by MIA "Russia Today", aims to support young photographers and attract public attention to the challenges of modern photojournalism.

The Andrey Stenin International Photojournalism Competition is the only platform in Russia where the international photo community discovers new names in photojournalism, maintains and develops its high standards, and forms criteria for the quality of documentary photography in Russia and the world.

In 2016, the contest became the largest platform for photo contests of young photographers, collecting about 6,000 works from 71 countries of the world, including Russia. The international geography of the competition covers all five continents, including the countries of Europe, North and South America, Africa, the Middle East, India, Australia and Southeast Asia. The geography of its Russian participants is represented by the whole country — from Kaliningrad, Moscow and St. Petersburg to Vladivostok and Yalta.
