Crowds come here to properly burn out the aesthetics of the wastelands — people tired of the gray everyday life can show off their costumes, appreciate the most crazy customization of cars in the world and beat each other to their heart's content under the dome of Thunder. We collected photos of how the festival was held this year.

There is only one condition to get to Wasteland Weekend — you need to look like a real raider. You can dress up like Tom Hardy or Mel Gibson from the movies, but here it's considered a bad thing — it's much cooler to find your own style for the post-apocalypse.
It all started in 2009, when about 150 fans of "Mad Max" decided to have a good time in the desert — take alcohol, girls and ride on endless sands on rusty cars. At first they decided that it would be a kind of homage to the film "Warrior of the Road", which, in fact, showed the canonical Max and the graceless aesthetics of the wastelands.
In 2010, the crowd that came to repeat the fun had already grown to several thousand. It became obvious to the organizers that it did not make sense to stay within the film franchise — too many people came in the same costumes of movie characters bought in the store. The guys decided that now it would be the Wasteland Weekend festival — based on Mad Max, but expanded for other universes.
A kind of "second wind" Wasteland Weekend received after the release of "Fury Road" with Tom Hardy in 2015.
The main idea was that each participant of the festival should not just glue a favorite hero — he should put his own unique element into a suit and a wheelbarrow.
Wasteland Weekend differs from the same Burning Men precisely in that here a person should not just walk through the desert in an unusual costume. He must find himself — to show what he would look like and who he would become in the post-apocalypse.
Wasteland Weekend is a festival of rusty pipes, roaring engines and sand—beaten rude faces. And, nevertheless, it clearly proves that the wastelands are a pleasant place to spend a weekend.
