What we remember from childhood? Biking, drawings on asphalt, toys, cartoons, games in the yard, funny rhymes, and of course children's books. Do you remember the cover of the books that I read as a child? They were so interesting, by the sight of just one illustration from the cover you can go to the fabulous world of fantasies. Besides children's books represent a certain slice of the cultural characteristics of a particular era in the life of the country.
The staff at Princeton University, first published digitized the cover 159 of the Soviet pre-war children's books stored in the library of the University. They were all published in the period between 1918 and 1938 and present examples typical of the time verbal and visual manners of expression of the meaning. Among the authors of the books — Agniya Barto, Vladimir Mayakovsky and Daniil Kharms. Already I wonder? Selection of the 50 most colourful, unusual and creative covers below.
