What is the age of consent in different countries

The story of how a grown man took a wife of juveniles encountered in the news very often. They cannot fail to arouse emotions and, as a rule, give rise to a serious debate. Someone said that you should always look at the law, someone puts up religion and traditions, and some physiology. Meanwhile, in different countries the age of consent varies, and we decided to find out where it is the lowest, and higher than in Russia.

Relatively recently, the Runet was actively discussing the story of 28-year-old Rasul Salikhova from Tatarstan, who lived in a religious marriage (this marriage) year with a girl who was only 13 years old. When the teenager was 14, the man decided to officially marry, but has come to the attention of law enforcement.

Guilty recognized not only Salikhov, but the girl's parents, who had nothing against her daughter's cohabitation with an adult male. None of the defendants in the case not guilty, as in the Muslim tradition that early marriage is a perfectly normal thing.

But, from the point of view of the law, committed a sexual crime against a minor. Russia is allowed to marry 18 years, and to enter into an intimate relationship, by mutual consent, with 16. In some special cases, such as during pregnancy, may be granted permission to marry in 16 years.

But Russia is a multinational and multi-confessional country and it is reflected in the legislation. A number of constituent entities of the Russian Federation have their own age limits. 14 years may permit a wedding in Moscow, Rostov, Samara and a number of regions, and in Bashkortostan the minimum age for marriage and not installed.

The most loyal in this respect is Japan — now in this country the age of consent is 13 years old. But perhaps it will not last long. The government is already considering to raise the bar to 16. This age must reach the citizen of South Korea, to begin a sexual life without breaking the law.

In the Muslim countries is the vast majority of marriages of minors. This is due to the mention in the Quran that Muhammad had three wives, and the youngest, Aisha, at the time of marriage was only 6-7 years. The laws of Islam allow men to marry girls immediately after the appearance of signs of early puberty.

The view and condition of the child, issued for the man who fit her father or even grandparents, it is not taken into account. In some places governments are struggling with these criminal unions, but often look at tradition through the fingers, interfering only when the misfortune.
