American artist Alyssa Monks works in a style bordering between realism and abstractionism. Each of her paintings is a separate life filled with feelings and emotions.
Below you can evaluate the skill of the artist yourself by getting acquainted with her best works.
Alyssa Monks is a contemporary American artist. She began to be interested in art since childhood. She studied painting at the Lorenzo de' Medici Academy of Art and Design in Florence, then received a master's degree from the Graduate School of Fine Arts at the New York Academy of Arts.
For some time, Alissa lectured at various universities in the country, taught painting at the New York Academy of Art, as well as Montclair State University and the College of the Lyme Academy of Arts.
For a long time she worked in the genre of "hyperrealism", and her paintings were indistinguishable from photographs. Then the girl began experimenting with layers of paint and colors, exploring different possibilities of writing, until she came to the conclusion that representative painting and abstraction can coexist on the same canvas.
Alissa takes ordinary photographs as the basis of her paintings. By the way, most of them depict her.
Alissa's paintings are often compared with photographs and referred to the genre of "photorealism". But she herself does not like this comparison.
In most of Alissa's paintings, there is a recurring plot – a girl bathing in a pond or taking a shower, and looking at the viewer through a misted and covered with drops of "glass".
It looks so realistic that sometimes you forget that in front of you is a picture, not a photograph. Visitors to Alissa Monks' exhibitions are impressed every time. According to them, only looking at the work up close, it becomes clear that this is the work of the artist.
To achieve such an amazing effect, Alissa Monks uses natural filters such as glass, steam or water droplets in her work.
Below you can see a few more works by Alissa, which are very difficult to distinguish from photographs.
Sometimes not only women appear in her paintings, but also other characters.
Many connoisseurs call Alyssa Monks' style "psychedelic realism".
