Heroes of courtyards, villages and districts in an amazing photo project by Gabriele Galimberti.

If you search for Lady Gaga or any other celebrity's name, you'll get millions of results, photos, descriptions, and more. Glory is such a well-exported and global product. But if you take a telescope and get closer, you can see a completely different type of famous people - local celebrities.

The restless photographer Gabriele Galimberti, traveling the world, noticed that there are people who are wildly popular in their village, district, city, at worst, but no one knows them outside of this place. Inventors, clowns, fishermen, bakers, bartenders, athletes - they became famous after their unusual, memorable and, most often, good deeds. And now, in a local bar, the heroes are always offered a drink at the expense of the institution, they all smile at them, often ask for advice and are proud to be their neighbors.

In his photo project “Local Celebrities”, Gabriele Galimberti tells the stories of such people.

1 Surfer from Alaska

Michael Sharp, 33 - Alaska. Everyone in Homer, a small town in southern Alaska, knows Michael Sharp! Why? Because every day of his life he surfs in cold water, even when the temperature is -25°C.

2. Animal shelter founder

Sandro Alviani, 63 years old - Costa Rica. Sandro is Italian. He moved to Costa Rica 4 years ago. In Italy, he worked as a zoo director, and after moving he wanted to leave this job. But since he is truly an expert on animals, the people of Puerto Vieira started bringing him sick animals found on the street. So now he has a tropical animal sanctuary of sorts and everyone calls him "San Francesco".

The girls in the photo are the only triplets in town, which is why they are local celebrities.

The owner of this land, Ron Adness, became rich overnight. Ron is really famous in Stanley, because some 5 years ago he was a simple peasant, but now he is one of the richest people in the state.

5. Fisherman without a boat

Abrahen Abouz, 38 years old - Morocco. There is a small fishing village of Lala Kvira on the Moroccan coast of the Atlantic Ocean. Each of its inhabitants has a boat, except for Abrachen Abuza, who sets off for the ocean with a tire from a large truck. He became a local legend two years ago when he caught a huge tuna with his simple fishing contraption.

6. Panama's only bike baker

Mauro, 38 years old - Panama. Mauro is the most famous baker in Bocas del Toro. Why? It's simple: he is the only one who takes out his bicycle every morning and delivers freshly baked bread to all the houses of the village.

7. Rock stars of Bali

Group XXX - Bali. XXX is the most famous rock band in Bali. Its members are brothers Rahtwo, Rahtut and Rahmink. In Bali, they are superstars, but outside the island no one knows them. Their concerts in their native Denpasar gather almost 10,000 fans, but, for example, there are almost no people at XXX performances in Jakarta. These are really local celebrities!

Eric Sly, 35 years old - California. Eric Sly is one of the many marijuana growers in Mendocino County, but he is the most famous among them. The fact is that he is the editor-in-chief of Grow magazine, the most famous marijuana publication on the West Coast.

9. Woman dog sled pilot

Moe, 57 years old - Canada. Yukon Quest is a dog sled race between Alaska and Yukon. Due to the harsh conditions and incredibly difficult track, they are considered the hardest dog sled races in the world, or even the toughest. Mo is the oldest woman to ever participate in the Yukon Quest, and therefore she is a real celebrity in her city.

Roberto Loserini, 37 years old - Italy. Roberto lives in a small Tuscan village. He is known locally as "The Texan" and it's not hard to see why. Every day Roberto dresses like a cowboy: boots, hat, embroidered shirt, buckle belt. But besides this, he is also a professor of philosophy, adored by his students.

11. Water clown

Dave, 45 years old - New York. Dave is the owner of the "museum on the water" in the old port of Brooklyn. In fact, the whole museum is an old boat, and Dave lives in it and works as a clown. Therefore, everyone knows him and calls him a water clown.

Jean-Claude Fignol, 71 years old - Haiti. Jean-Claude Fignol is a writer. In 1980, he supported the inhabitants of the small town of Apricot. And since 2007, the father of three children, he becomes the mayor of the city, and its most famous resident. Jean-Claude launched programs to restore forests, spread education, develop health care, road construction and agriculture. In 2010, after the earthquake in Haiti, thousands of refugees who lost their homes poured into the town. Then Jean-Claude left writing, and devoted himself entirely to taking care of the city.
