Top 10 most environmentally friendly cities in Russia

St. Petersburg did not enter the top ten (15th place), and Yekaterinburg did not enter the top twenty (23rd place). As explained in the Ministry of Natural Resources, the results of some cities could be better if they provided complete or correct data. At the same time, higher places in the ranking were occupied by those cities that are working to improve the quality of the urban environment. The rating methodology was developed by EY.

10th place: Lipetsk
There are seven categories in the rating of the Ministry of Natural Resources: “air environment”, “water consumption and water quality”, “waste management”, “use of territories”, “transport”, “energy consumption” and “management of environmental impact”. Lipetsk entered the top ten only in terms of transport (3rd place) and energy consumption (6th place), and this was enough to take 10th place in Russia in the composite ranking.
9th place: Ulan-Ude
The capital of Buryatia turned out to be the third in terms of waste management; according to other indicators, Ulan-Ude is not in the top ten.
8th place: Omsk
Omsk was third in terms of environmental impact management, and this is the only place in the top 10 by category.
7th place: Tambov
Tambov ranked fourth in terms of energy consumption and eighth in terms of environmental impact management.
6th place: Krasnodar
Krasnodar ranked sixth in waste management and fifth in environmental impact management.
5th place: Voronezh
Voronezh has become the leader in terms of the air environment in Russia; according to other indicators, the city did not make it into the top 10.
4th place: Moscow
Moscow is the first in Russia in terms of environmentally friendly energy consumption, the third in terms of the air environment, and the fifth in terms of water consumption and water quality, as well as in terms of the use of territories.
3rd place: Vologda
Vologda is second only to Voronezh in terms of air quality, ranks fourth in transport, sixth in water consumption and water quality, eighth in waste management, tenth in energy consumption and environmental impact management.
2nd place: Saransk
Saransk became the leader in environmental impact management, received silver in water consumption and water quality, and ranked ninth in transport.
1st place: Ufa
Ufa took the final place without winning in any category. In terms of the use of territories, Ufa was second, in terms of water quality - seventh, in terms of environmental impact management - ninth.
