Said that the Circassian beauties with the hair "Massimi as moss" captivate with their beauty and are much in demand in the harems of Oriental sovereigns.
This legend decided to take advantage of the Creator of the famous circus freak Phineas Barnum, who tried to buy in the slave market, the Circassian. Not finding the desired, he decided to create the "Circassian beauty" of American women, marking the beginning of the whole business.
Acting in accordance with the popular myth about the attractiveness of the Circassian women, P. T. Barnum in 1864, sent one of his agents to Constantinople to buy one of the lovely ladies in the slave market. Although Barnum claimed that his agent, dressed in Turkish costume, saw many beautiful Circassian girls and women, for one reason or another he couldn't any one of them to buy.
Barnum then hired a local American girl with very curly hair, which has long played the role of circus Circassian beauty, working under the pseudonym "Zaluma Agra, star of the East". The story she told about themselves, were a mixture of folklore, pseudo-facts about the life of the Caucasus and erotic tales of harems. Saloma used with the public a huge success.
The success of Barnum reiterated a market of live rarities in the United States had been invaded by pseudocertainty with names beginning with "Z" — it was very authentic. However, the interest did not last too long. When it faded, most of the girls found a new job in the circus, often retrain in a mysterious African enchantress of snakes.
Probably looking at pictures of "cellasene" the mid-19th century in the United States, the inhabitants of the Caucasus can not help but smile.
