The police printed flyers on behalf of a non—existent company offering to receive a free Christmas gift: champagne, wine, pudding and other pleasant trifles - and sent them to the addresses of the fugitive criminals. To receive a gift, the recipients only had to arrange for home delivery. But instead of couriers, lawbreakers were visited by law enforcement officers.
As a result, in two days, the police managed to detain 21 criminals. Chief Inspector Lee Berry, who oversaw the operation, praised its effectiveness.
This creative approach of the police is strikingly similar to the trick that Chief Wiggum used in the eighth episode of the ninth season of The Simpsons. He invited criminals to distribute free motorboats. It is unclear whether the guards of South Yorkshire themselves came up with this move or watched it in the animated series, but the main thing is that it worked.
