The British woman understood that it would be difficult for her and her new boyfriend to pay for the rent of an apartment and pay utility bills. She had dreamed of living independently before, so she started reading blogs about budget ways of organizing such a life.

In April 2018, he and Gary bought a 1996 minibus for 2,400 pounds (about 222,000 rubles). The car needed repairs, so at first the couple lived in the van of Carla's father. The couple spent 6,000 pounds (about 554,000 rubles) on a bed, a shower, a toilet, a washing machine, a solar-powered refrigerator, a wood burner and a kitchen.

Traveling cost the couple 40 pounds (about 3,700 rubles) a day, which went to gas for cooking, hot showers, laundry and washing dishes. They spent 10 pounds (about 925 rubles) a week on fuel. The couple spent 30 pounds (about 2,770 rubles) a week on groceries. The main problem was finding water, but at gas stations they were usually allowed to fill the tanks. With the arrival of winter, Carla and Gary were warming themselves near a wood burner. They used branches of fallen trees, and sometimes builders gave them wood for free.

Soon the couple quit the supermarket and started doing home delivery and cleaning on a flexible schedule. Having collected the money saved on rent and utility bills, the couple was able to go to Iceland, Majorca and Amsterdam. They have been to several festivals in the UK where they sold ice cream from a van.

The couple claims that there is no stress in their life on the road. The only thing they worry about is the breakdown of the bus.
