The most popular films of the summer of 2021

Summer officially begins on June 1 and ends on September 1, but the summer film season is extended a little longer. It includes films released in May, which will be released in the coming hot months. And historically summer is the time of blockbusters. In 2021, that still rings true despite Covid loitering nearby, albeit on a smaller scale.

Big films will continue to be shot in the summer of 2021. New releases from Marvel, Pixar, Disney, and DC should attract viewers, but they will have a lot of competition. Scroll down to see all the major releases this summer.

1. Cruella.

Be careful, this is not a children's movie. Disney has rebooted its infamous villain One Hundred and One Dalmatians as Harley Quinn with an eye on future sequels.

2. Quiet Place 2.

A quiet place thrilled the public in 2018, so a sequel was always on the horizon. Director John Krasinski is back, but in the original, his character (spoiler alert) sacrifices himself to save his family, so his wife will become the leader of the family.

3. The bodyguard of the killer's wife.

The sequel to the awkward (but successful) 2017 film. We hope this film gets better as Salma Hayek joins the cast.

4. Luke.

Pixar's latest creation brings sea monsters and Italy together in a secret little tale by the ocean and under the ocean. On the Italian Riviera, two young sea monsters transform into humans to explore the world above. Luca and Alberto strive to discover something new for themselves, but, coming out of the water, they lose their heads.

5. Black Widow.

Look for plenty of flashbacks as the story will likely delve deeper into the Black Widow's origin story. She starts out as a well-trained KGB hitman.

6. Jungle cruise.

On the cruise, Dwayne Johnson battles all kinds of wild animals and reptiles, as well as a supernatural element. Emily Blunt plays one of the main roles. She and Scala must make a great team.

7. Legend of the Green Knight.

The Legend of the Green Knight has already won many fans thanks to its fantastic first trailer. The film is the story of King Arthur: Sir Gawain (Patel), King Arthur's stubborn nephew, embarks on a dangerous journey. He goes to battle with the titled Green Knight, a legendary giant of amazing origins.

8. Kissing booth 3.

Based on the bestselling books of 20-year-old writer Beth Rickles, the Kissing Booth films follow college teen El Evans as she comes face to face with her longtime love in a kissing booth. She then needs to balance her new love life with her best friend Lee, which only leads to more problems.

9. Candyman.

Tony Todd brings back the iconic horror villain in 2021.

10. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Marvel's first Asian film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings introduces a protagonist to the world. Marvel fans know him as "Bruce Lee's superhero." Shang-Chi's appearance was modeled after Lee in the 70s and, like Lee, is a "master of kung fu." One difference: Shang-Chi can copy itself indefinitely. In the comics, he becomes the Avenger.

11. The multiple saints of Newark.

The "Multiple Saints of Newark" will appear about ten years later. And honestly, we'd rather know what happens after going black in the Sopranos finale than embark on a journey back in time. But, in memory of the late great James Gandolfini, we will say nothing more.
