However, many will watch the broadcast not so much for the songs, but for the show.
Apart from the undoubted hit Waterloo, with which the cult Swedish quartet ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, only a few songs that sounded at the competition gained worldwide popularity. Sequins, hellish curls, feathers and even a turkey (in 2008, Ireland was represented in the competition by a puppet character, a turkey named Dustin) jumped out of dry ice clouds onto Europe's biggest stages. In the end, this sheer kitsch and teeth-grinding embarrassment outfits won Eurovision popularity around the world.
