The couple quit their jobs and went traveling. Now he cleans toilets for cash

Over the past few years, here and there almost every day there are stories of a girl or a guy, and more often-a couple of lovers who could not stand the boring everyday life and work from 9 to 5, sold their property and set off on a journey around the world. Of course, they post photos of places of incredible beauty on the web, where we can't even get on the next vacation.

Chanel Cartell (Chanel Cartell) and Stevo Denbeger (Stevo Dirnberger) quit their jobs and went around the world. They run the blog "How Far From Home", where they revealed the gray reality of such adventures. The reality that the rest of the sunny and always smiling bloggers prefer to hide.

Earlier this year, a couple from South Africa made headlines when they reported that Chanel and Stevo had given up a high-paying and stable job in advertising and were traveling.

The couple documents their journey on the blog How Far From Home, the main idea of which is to find out how far from home they can get.

And of course, to everyone who sits in the office, this story seems like an exciting dream.

However, the guys wanted their readers to know that when they are not doing yoga against the backdrop of a sunset on a Greek beach, they clean the toilets for cash.

In a revealing blog post, the Cartel wrote that they realized by looking at their social media accounts that the photos did not reflect the whole truth about their travels.

"We wanted to tell everything honestly and without reserve for those who consider the option of a round-the-world trip, thinking that all this is just a glamorous fantasy."

"At the moment, I think we have cleaned 135 toilets, scattered 250 kilograms of cow dung, shoveled 2 tons of stones, laid 60 meters of sidewalk, removed 57 beds, and I don't even remember how many glasses we washed."

"We left all the comforts and excesses at home in Johannesburg, and faced the cruel truth of wage labor. Now we are at the opposite end of the career ladder. Now we wash toilets, clean up after dogs, work as merchandisers in grocery stores."

However, despite the grueling work, the Cartel wrote that they still lack even basic necessities.

"I do not follow the figure, weight and health. But almost every day we eat jam and crackers, sleep barely 5 hours and carry incredibly heavy backpacks at one o'clock in the morning, trying to find somewhere to spend the night."

But, according to the girl, all the difficulties they faced are worth the experience they get. "Nothing can compare to the fact that we changed our jobs, where we were responsible for millions of projects, to washing toilets — all this taught us modesty and the need to live every day as if it were our last."

"When we went on the trip, we promised each other that we would strive for adventures that go far beyond our comfort zone." The couple hopes that their blog inspires others to find adventure.
