To become record holders and perpetuate their names in the Guinness Book of Records, people do strange things. So the Briton Matt Ellis did not find anything better than to set a record for visiting pubs. The man visited 51 pubs in just a day, and not just checked in, but made an order in each of them.

A resident of St. Neots, Cambridgeshire, Matt Ellis regularly visits places where a foamy drink is offered. During the pandemic, he had to seriously limit himself. But now Matt has decided to make up for lost time and at the same time help pubs whose incomes have fallen dramatically with advertising.

The Briton took a swing at the record and decided to visit the largest number of pubs in a day. He started his marathon on Sunday and finished it on Monday. In an interview with the BBC, Matt Ellis told how the day passed, which he spent between the bar counters and urinals.

Matt reported that he overcame the first 10 pubs in just an hour. But then the task became more complicated, as I had to drink quickly and through force. In each of the establishments, the Briton had to drink 125 ml of any drink. Since Matt planned to get into at least 50 pubs, he had to drink 6.38 liters.

To ensure that everything goes according to the regulations, specially appointed observers, as well as pub patrons, monitored. Ellis believes that pubs make a great contribution to public life. They help people communicate and strengthen the spirit of camaraderie. But Matt himself, although he considers himself a regular in pubs, orders beer extremely rarely. A man prefers to have a glass or two of orange juice or diet coke.

So this time Matt limited himself to juices and lemonades, which greatly devalued his record in the eyes of beer lovers. But the Briton's record lies precisely in the number of pubs visited, and that's all right. Now Matt is waiting for confirmation of his achievement by experts of the Guinness Book of Records.

Among the records, there has not yet been one associated with visits to pubs by one person. In 2011, a company of Americans from 13 people visited 250 bars in New York for a day, but they are not rivals to Matt. The record holders went to the establishments in a group and just checked in there, making orders only in some.
