Josephine Linggar is an Indonesian artist well known in her country and abroad. Her work can be seen in exhibitions and private collections in Indonesia, China, Japan, Vietnam, India, Canada and the USA.
Josephine Linggar was born in 1943 in a village on the island of Java. She grew up among the riot of colors of tropical nature and the beautiful rituals of her people.
The artist began painting in her youth, but the world only learned about her in 1994. Then 50-year-old Linggar held her first solo exhibition in Geneva.
Now Josephine Linggar has more than 50 exhibitions in different countries of the world. The artist's paintings are highly valued by collectors and are sold at auctions.
The main motive of the Indonesian artist’s work is the women of Indonesia. The heroines of her paintings are peasant women, city dwellers, and national dancers. Linggar skillfully uses the play of light and shadow to convey the mood. To enhance the effect, the master uses sepia and rich red tones.
