Joel Meyerowitz is a recognized genius, one of the most versatile masters of photography, who knows how to find exceptional moments in ordinary places and has repeatedly changed the style of shooting.

Once upon a time, Joel Meyerowitz knew nothing about photography. And suddenly I decided to devote myself to her, borrowed a camera, went out on the streets of New York and started shooting. His photographs were in black and white, and in the 1970s he began to shoot in color. So the photographer not only began the path of the American classic of street photography, but also contributed to the development of color photography in general.

The photographer was born in 1938 in the Bronx. He first studied art history and medical illustration at the Ohio State University. Returning to New York, in 1959 he began his career as an art director and designer.

He was greatly impressed by a meeting with the photographer Robert Frank, after which in 1962 he began shooting and in the same year left the agency, devoting himself exclusively to photography. He wandered around New York, capturing the mood of the streets. Soon he developed a special, frank and focused on people style. The photographer's works have a unique visual language.

In 1966, Meyerowitz began an 18-month trip to Europe, which deeply inspired him and can be considered a turning point in his career as a photographer. Meyerowitz took many pictures from a moving car. These works were presented in 1968 at his first exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, "Photographs from a moving Car", which was curated by John Szarkowski himself.
