The 10 most beautiful estates in Russia that every Russian should see at least once in his life

Blogger Vadim Razumov has been exploring all corners of Russia for ten years in search of ancient manors. For him, our whole country is permeated with history, which is most clearly expressed in these once family homes. Its goal is to "restore historical ties between people and estates, attract attention to architecture and art, develop tourism, volunteerism and popularize cultural heritage."

Recently, Vadim published a list of the most beautiful estates in Russia. When compiling, he tried to choose one favorite architectural object in a particular region. Then the words of the author.

Bogoroditsk and Dvoryaninovo estates, Tula region

I combined these estates into the formula: Bogoroditsk + Dvoryaninovo = my most favorite estates of the Tula region. I deliberately do not share these estates. For me, Bogoroditsk is more of a manor created by a brilliant scientist and public figure Andrei Timofeevich Bolotov. And Dvoryaninovo is the estate in which Bolotov drew inspiration for his ideas and achievements. It seems to me that Bolotov can quite deservedly be put on a par with Lomonosov, Karamzin and other outstanding figures of different eras.

Unfortunately, the figure of Bolotov is not heard by Russians these days. Bogoroditsk and Dvoryaninovo have one thing in common — the parks of these estates are created in a unique "Russian style" — another invention of the brilliant Bolotov. And they are a true masterpiece.

Polibino Manor, Lipetsk region

The Lipetsk region is a paradise for the traveler and the birthplace of interesting estates in all respects. But still, I think that the most magnificent estate in this area is the Polibino estate. Before the revolution, it belonged to the family of the most famous patrons — the noble family of the Nechaevs. Yuri Stepanovich Nechaev-Maltsov was one of those thanks to whom one of the most beautiful and authoritative museums in the world appeared in Moscow — the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. I really like to look at the beautiful main house of the estate with a columned portico, decorated with fancy forging.

I love the world's first hyperboloid tower, designed by architect Shukhov, which Nechaev-Maltsov bought at an industrial exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod and brought to Polybino. I love the Polybinsky garden, overgrown ponds and the extraordinary photogenicity of this estate.

Manor Znamenskoye-Raek, Tver region

The most beautiful classical manor from among those that I managed to see. The main house of the estate was created by the outstanding architect Nikolai Lvov and is considered one of his best creations. The interiors of the main house are striking in their beauty, even though now Znamenskoye-Raek is in a state of desolation.

The pearl of the interior decoration of the main house was the magnificent dome of the main hall, creating the effect of the firmament. The estate is surrounded by a picturesque area with a partially preserved park, which is pleasant to walk in both warm and cold seasons.

Andreevskoye estate, Vladimir region

The Andreevskoye estate attracts with an unusual, surprisingly beautiful main house. It belonged to Roman Illarionovich Vorontsov. Then the estate was owned by his son Alexander Romanovich Vorontsov, who was the first Russian ambassador to England.

In 1784 and 1785 A.V. Suvorov came to the estate, and in 1812 P.I. Bagration was here. In 1833, A.S. Pushkin, an acquaintance of Vorontsov's wife, visited the estate. The Andreevskoye estate was described by L.N. Tolstoy in Hadji Murad. I want to believe that in our days the estate will be revived.

It is almost impossible to choose the most favorite palace and manor complex among the huge number of luxurious imperial residences. But I chose the Gatchina Palace. It is unique, has its own character, many faces, not pretentious and very beautiful.

Love since childhood. My passion for homesteads began with walks around Kuskovo. As a child, walking with my grandmother in Kuskovo, I already understood that I had the opportunity to see something very special. Years have passed since then. And I still consider Kuskovo a model of an ideal estate.

Another love that originates from childhood is Glinka's estate. In this estate, which is one of the oldest in the Moscow region, I walked with my grandparents as a child. Even then I heard creepy legends about the owner of the estate, an associate of Peter the Great, Jacob Bruce. That in the summer he could freeze ponds, conducted magical rituals in Glinka, created a system of underground passages in Glinka.

As an adult, I already knew that half of these myths are fiction. But the love for the estate, its history and mysterious atmosphere has remained and is increasing with each of my visits to Glinka.

Choosing your favorite palace of the Crimea is also not an easy task. But I will choose the Vorontsov Palace in Alupka. This exceptionally beautiful architectural complex stands out among other Crimean palaces for its power and amazing harmony.

I love the Kostino estate in the Ryazan region with all my heart. Now the picturesque ruins of the main house and the preserved park remind of its prosperous past. The estate is surrounded by incredibly beautiful landscapes that add to its special charm.

I would like the estate to be restored as soon as possible. But even now, a walk along Kostino will bring great pleasure to all those who crave peace and aesthetics.
