He gained wide popularity mainly due to his shocking works, balancing on the verge of eroticism and pornography. In Japan, Araki exhibitions are often closed, works are confiscated, and fines are imposed on the photographer. But this does not stop the master and only increases his popularity around the world, including in Japan itself.
Nobuyoshi Araki was born in Tokyo in 1940, becoming the fifth child of seven in the family. He received his first camera as a gift from his father at the age of 12, and inherited his passion for photography from him. At the university, he studied the art of photography and cinema, and then got a job as a photographer at the Dentsu advertising agency, where he met his future wife, Yoko Aoki. In 1971, the newlyweds went on a honeymoon, during which Araki became interested in intimate photography. Upon his return, he published the book "Sentimental Journey" and since then he prefers the genre of" personal " photography.
