It is the political, economic, educational and cultural center of Taiwan and one of the most important cities in East Asia. A photographer under the pseudonym David G. took these rare photos when he studied at Taiwan from September 1977 to March 1979.
In 1967, Taipei received the status of a provincial municipality — then a number of districts joined the city (Shilin, Beitou, Neihu, Nangang, Jingmei and Muzha). The area of Taipei has increased almost 4 times, and the population has increased to 1.56 million people. By the mid-1970s, more than 2 million people lived in the city.
Later, the influx of population decreased, and it became quite stable by the mid-1990s. But despite this, today Taipei remains one of the most densely populated cities in the world. The population level continues to grow every year in the city and surrounding areas.
