Of course, it cannot be compared with the incredible creations of Antonio Gaudi, although, who knows, maybe one day it will become a national treasure. Its architecture is so impressive that already now there are more tourists walking around the complex than real residents. What makes this place so special?
The building, or rather the whole complex of buildings La Muralla Roja, looks unusual from the outside, and even stranger inside. Some even think that it was there that the sensational South Korean series "The Squid Game" was filmed. Its interiors are very similar to the sets of the popular TV show. Most likely, the creators of the series were inspired, among other things, by this architectural masterpiece.
The author of the Red Wall project is the Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill. The idea for this complex appeared in sketches in 1968, and the first residents moved in only in 1973. It was built in the postmodern style popular in the 60s and 70s, but the author chose the most daring architectural solutions at that time.
The complex bears little resemblance to residential buildings, but rather resembles a fortress with many towers, passages and stairs, or a fantastic three-dimensional labyrinth. In addition, Bofill used bright colors in the design - red and blue.
The architect chose this solution for a reason. According to his plan, the red color symbolizes the cliffs surrounding Calpe, and the blue echoes the endless sky and waters of the Balearic Sea. This solution makes the complex a bright accent in the landscape of the region and a magnet for lovers of unusual architecture.
From the outside, the Red Wall looks like a single monolithic building. In reality, it is a complex of 50 three-story buildings connected by passages and stairs. The complex is located in such a way that most of its windows overlook the vastness of the Balearic Sea. Residents of the complex get to their apartments via stairs and patios.
The apartments in the complex range from compact studios to three-room apartments. But there are few permanent residents here - most of the premises are rented out. All residents can use the beautiful outdoor pool, sauna and spacious rooftop terraces.
Most of the apartments do not have permanent residents and are rented out. Some rent housing here for a long term, and some stay for a few days to get vivid emotions and take spectacular photos in interiors that look like a scene from a science fiction film.
There are plenty of people who want to live in the house from the TV series "The Squid Game", which is what tourists most often call it. Usually, you have to book accommodation here in advance. And this is despite the fact that the prices in La Muralla Roja "bite". The cost of living reaches 300 dollars per day (33 thousand rubles). But the high price tag does not scare off tourists: the desire to live in an architectural masterpiece and feel like a part of this history outweighs the material costs.
The "Red Wall" leaves no one indifferent: some see it as an architectural miracle, others - a strange combination of shapes and colors. What do you think about such unusual residential complexes? Would you like to live in the "Red Wall" to feel like a part of a unique architectural history? Share your thoughts in the comments!
