The mansion with an area of more than 15 thousand square meters, surrounded by 14 hectares of private land, was built in 1830. No house in the world has ever been sold for such money before.

Initially, the villa was owned by the mayor of Villefranche-sur-Mer, who was passionate about growing olives. One of the most beautiful gardens in Europe is still located on the territory: a perfectly trimmed lawn, 15 thousand plants and 20 greenhouses with tropical flora.
In 1904, the villa became the property of the Belgian King Leopold II, who at the turn of the century became incredibly rich on the merciless exploitation of the Congo Free State (it was considered his "personal possession").
After him, the noble French family of Marnier-Lapostelle managed the estate for 80 years. And now the owner of all this beauty is the Italian company Davide Campari-Milano, which produces the famous Campari liqueur and other alcoholic beverages.
One of the ponds is decorated with Amazonian water lilies specially brought from Brazil.
This area, of course, is extremely fashionable. In particular, English composer Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen live next door.
The house, decorated with many paintings of the XIX century, has 16 bedrooms. There is also a ballroom, a 50-meter indoor pool, several fireplaces and a spacious terrace. In a separate building there is a stable for 30 horses.
In the XX century, many prominent people of the era stayed at the Villa Les Cèdres: actors Charlie Chaplin and Elizabeth Taylor, writer Somerset Maugham, Prince Rainier III of Monaco. British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill spent hours painting landscapes while standing in the midst of local splendor.
