In his documentary-portrait cycle "Gypsies" photographer Patrick Carew decided to observe the life of this ever-wandering people. However, he did it in the opposite direction, starting to study Gypsy culture and life in European countries, gradually moving from west to east, and eventually finishing his studies already in India, which is supposed to be the historical homeland of the Roma people.

The author managed to collect rare documentary material, having spent about ten years of his career as a photographer. Patrick photographed a variety of groups of Gypsies: these are both French "manouches" who live in affluence and drive Mercedes, and completely impoverished Slovak and Romanian Roma. What you see is amazing, and also makes you think about how much living conditions can affect a person's appearance and mentality.
