10 PHOTOS
1. The installation depicts figures scattered among the trees and explores the relationship between man and nature.
2. 93 works of art, especially those that represent trees, are designed to attract the attention of marine life and will develop organically. Some tree forms float just below the surface, creating a suitable substrate for marine life at all levels.
3. The work of Jason de Caires Taylor is part of the eco-art movement, in which a work of art interacts with its environment in unpredictable ways. Eventually, the work of nature will supplant the work of the artist - and provide food and shelter for a multitude of creatures.
4. Over the past 20 years, marine life in the Mediterranean Sea has been severely depleted and work is aimed at highlighting the need to rebuild our oceans. Children are depicted playing in the forest, aiming cameras at humanity in the hope of a future where the magic of nature will return.
5. The museum is located in a marine protected area about 200 meters from Pernera beach and at a depth of eight to 10 meters, so it is accessible for snorkelers, scuba divers, and freedivers.
6. The installation was conceived to resemble a path through a dense underwater forest.
7. The forest is made from inert materials with neutral pH and aims to reproduce the terrestrial forest, becoming a center for biodiversity conservation.
8. Hybrid trees weighing 13 tons were lowered into the sea.
9. DeKer Taylor's work explores human impact on the natural world, biodiversity loss and climate change.
10. One of the most striking figures from the installation.
