And if you had money, these ships had to spend weeks and months to get from point, a to point B, became the personification of high class and luxury.
Of course, today's cruise ships can boast a planetarium and a huge swimming pool on Board, but these modern floating shopping malls lack the elegance and flavor of bygone years.
The journey across the ocean was not cheap.
That's what got the people who could pay for the tickets to the upper deck.
During construction special attention was paid to the smallest details, ships tried to make exact copies of the luxury hotels.
Suitcases passengers in first class were taken by the maid.
On Board such a ship barely remember that you are in the middle of the ocean.

The people lived on the ship for months, so they had to come up with some classes.
During the cruise carried out even Boxing matches.
Dinners during the voyage was very long.
A table worthy of kings.
Table looked like theatre or Opera.
For dinner people dressed accordingly.
Live music and dancing.
These are the recreation areas.
Library and reading room.
Passengers could call home from your cabin.
And also take your clothes to the Laundry.
And to buy the necessary medicines at the pharmacy.
Games room for children.
The bedrooms were comfortable and cozy.
The beds were single, even for married couples.
The bedrooms are first class also looked good.
