During Hollywood's golden age, Los Angeles offered the perfect place to unwind after long, hard shoots at the studios next door. As now, these were places where there was something to see and where to show oneself. From the silent film era and legends like Estelle Taylor and Pola Negri to late 1970s actresses Bo Derek and Diane Keaton, this unique collection is full of photographs.

1. Marilyn Monroe takes a break from filming in the 50s on the beach in Los Angeles. Her last completed film was The Misfits (1961), in which she co-starred with Clark Gable. The actress died of an overdose the following year.
2. Ava Gardner on the beach in the 40s. Her breakthrough role was in The Assassins (1946). Gardner became one of the leading actresses in Hollywood and one of the most beautiful women of her time.
