And now 21 years later the author of the picture, the photographer Charles O rier (Charles O'rear) ready to show the world "Wallpaper of the new generation." Lufthansa has hired him to create New Angles of America ("a New look at America"), and serene photos O Riera will be used at this time for smartphones.
"I just turned 76 years old, and I realized how much this picture changed my life. As the author of the most viewed photos in history, I enjoyed every minute of fame".
"I'm awfully glad that Lufthansa make for a sort of sequel to "Serenity" for smartphones. My vision of beautiful places will again delight millions of people. After all, smartphones have taken a leading position in the modern world. I am glad to be a part of it."
The famous photo was taken in 1996. O rier went to a friend's when I saw the incredible beauty of the landscape in California Grenache SONOMA County. He stopped, got out of the car and began to establish a medium-format Mamiya RZ67 camera on a tripod, giving it film Fujifilm Velvia.
In fact, the hill was covered with vineyards, but in the early ' 90s the land was infected by phylloxera grape, and for several years was removed. Therefore, when O rier took the picture in January 96, the year, the hills were covered with lush green grass. And while he sets the camera, the sky passed over the cloud.
Initially, the photographer sent the photo company Corbis in Seattle, which belonged to bill gates and was engaged in the stock photos. Then, in 2000, a year before the release of Windows XP, Microsoft bought the rights to the photo.
According to O Riera, a photograph has not been altered digitally.
After 10 years, art project, Goldin+Senneby took a photo of the same place After Microsoft ("After Microsoft") from approximately the same point.
