The city got its name in honor of the girl Olive Othman, who together with the Mormons tried to establish a colony in California, but was captured by the Indian tribe Yavapai (Yavapai) in 1850.
She was held captive for five years until she was released near the modern city of Othman.
Olive Othman remained in people's memory as the first white American woman with a tattoo on her body, which was done to her in the tribe.
The image of Olives can be found in just one place in the city: in a cafe where tourists can dine to music and attach a small bill to the wall as a souvenir.
When gold was found in the city, about 3 thousand people lived there. However, with the disappearance of the resource, the city began to lose residents and become empty. Now a little more than a hundred people live there. And donkeys. They have become a local landmark.
