Lovers of free love all over the world are perfectly familiar with the so-called "four S" concept. It got its name from four factors of attractiveness of resorts for a certain category of tourists. These are sea - sea, sun - sun, sand - sand and sex - a physical manifestation of love. This concept has been studied up and down by psychologists, moralists and even venereologists. But now it's time for environmentalists and they have said their word.

It turns out that free love in the sand dunes by the sea has become a real disaster for many resorts on the planet. To determine the extent of the impact of this human activity on nature, studies were conducted in the Canary Islands. It turned out that sex tourists are much more dangerous than ordinary beach lovers, as they litter a lot, specifically and on a larger territory.

Vacationers who want to retire for sex go away from crowded places. They don't care too much about the cleanliness of the environment and throw cigarette butts, bottles and bags anywhere. But the most dangerous garbage was not even plastic, but used condoms. They are often swallowed by the giant lizards of Gran Canaria, mistaking them for jellyfish. There are few chances for rare reptiles to survive after that.

To determine the extent of damage from sex tourists, ecologists examined 298 sites favored by people in different nature reserves, the total area of which reaches 5.7 thousand square kilometers. Damage is caused not only by garbage, but also by the very presence of people in the bosom of nature. Tourists trample grass, damage trees and shrubs, and pollute coastal waters.

It is noted that sexually anxious vacationers choose lowlands covered with grassy vegetation and shrubs. This leads to the selective destruction of 8 species of local flora, 2 of which are endemic and grow only in the Canaries.
