Did everyone wake up on Monday?
Knocker-up or Knocker-upper is a forgotten profession in England and Ireland, which consisted in waking people up for work. It originated during the Industrial Revolution and existed until the 20s of the 20th century.
They mainly used long bamboo sticks, batons, canes, but sometimes, to wake up the residents of the upper floors, they shot peas at the windows. Mostly elderly people worked as knocker-appers, but sometimes, for additional remuneration, this work was entrusted to the local constable.

Mary Smith earned sixpence a week by shooting peas from a tube into the windows of sleeping workers.
