Dark history: how Edward Kennedy almost died at the hands of a satanist and a mafia

The data was first published by the American media organization in the field of political journalism Politico. They revolved around the claims of an informant that Anton LaVey, the founder of the Church of Satan, told about his plan to kill John F. Kennedy's brother with the help of the mafia.

A controversial incident occurred in 1980, when Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy (pictured above) participated in the presidential election from the Democratic Party, but lost and Jimmy Carter became president for the second time. According to the FBI report, the informant contacted the authorities on October 20 of the same year, claiming to have spoken with the organizer of the "Church of Satan".

The Satanic sect "The Church of Satan" was founded in 1966 by Anton La Vey, who called for worshipping the devil and enjoying earthly joys, because there is no afterlife, at least not paradise.

The leader of the sect, nicknamed "Black Dad", founded the "Church of Satan" in San Francisco. The cultists gathered in a building called the Black House. Here La Vey held pretentious meetings and rituals surrounded by naked women and kept a real lion as a pet. Approximately 10 years after the founding of the church, La Vey stopped holding public ceremonies and began to appear less in public, paying more attention to writing.

Meanwhile, Edward Kennedy decided to run for president in 1980. The brother of John and Robert Kennedy, who were killed in the 60s, participated in the elections several times, but he could not take the place of the head of state. The leader of the "Church of Satan" told the agent that within a week he would receive a package that he would need to hand over to a mobster on the south side of Chicago. According to the report, he said that the mafia was going to kill Senator Edward Kennedy.

For the first time, the FBI received information that an attempted murder of a senator was planned. Edward probably had a premonition that something was wrong, because he wrote a letter and asked to give it to his youngest son Patrick if he suffered the same fate as his political brothers. In early 1980, an informant overheard a conversation between a group of men in a movie theater and explained how they planned to kill a senator in Pittsburgh. Volunteer in Trenton, New Jersey, contacted an agent and said they would kill Kennedy when he arrived in town.

A source told the FBI that La Vey was going to come to Chicago on October 27, bringing 8 kg of hashish and a large sum of money. Agents were sent to O'Hare International Airport, but the leader of the "Church of Satan" was never seen there. According to the report, the results of the informant's lie detector test were inconclusive, and the researchers noted that this could have happened due to cocaine use.

Two days after the search at the airport, investigators went to the Black House in San Francisco, but the woman who came out to them replied that La Vey was away. After a while, the FBI again checked the informant on a lie detector. Inconsistencies continued to arise in his story.

The agents visited the Black House again on Halloween: this time they saw the organizer of the "Church of Satan" in person. La Vey claimed that he had nothing to do with the claims and had great respect for Senator Kennedy and his family. He said that he himself receives threats because of his position in the church. The "Black Dad", who had no previous criminal record, received a call from Chicago between October 23 and 27, but he did not answer or call back. The Satanist said that he spends most of his time writing books and began to be interested in photography.According to the report, the informant never misled the authorities, and there was no reason why he immediately contacted officials.

Anton La Vey lost ownership of the Black House in 1991 after breaking up with Diane Hegarty. However, the Satanist was allowed to live in the building until his death in 1997. Teddy Kennedy died in 2009 after serving as a Massachusetts senator for almost 47 years. Fortunately, he did not suffer the fate of his brothers, but the mystery of the murder plot has not been fully solved.
