But not when they were depicted by Danish artist John Kenn Mortensen. He is a real specialist in the field of nightmares and with his drawings he is able to penetrate anyone. Looking at John's work, you involuntarily remember those times when the tap of a branch on the window made you hide under the blanket.
John Kenn Mortensen, oddly enough, is a director and screenwriter of children's programs. In his spare time, he draws with inspiration, and his creations, of course, are dedicated to children. Just don’t show them to kids, unless, of course, you want to look for a child psychologist later.
Have you ever had the feeling that someone is sneaking behind your back late at night? Have you heard a whistling whisper in the darkness outside the front door? Or maybe you were alarmed by the creaking of the swings on the playground at night? If yes, then you will surely be inspired by the eerie creativity of the Dane.
Mortensen is a true expert in children's horror stories. Perhaps he draws the subjects for his drawings from the stories of the children with whom he constantly deals at work. Or maybe these are images that visited him as a child. John does not reveal this secret and we only have to guess.
Although Mortensen's monsters are overtly caricatured, his drawings successfully convey an atmosphere of hopelessness and horror. The viewer experiences a feeling of anxiety at the sight of children who find themselves at the mercy of hellish creatures.
If you're still not scared, then check out the pixel art by Russian artist Uno Moralez. It shows not only children's nightmares, but also quite adult ones.
