In the picture of Martin McDonagh, the main character decided to draw attention to the investigation of the murder of her daughter and rented three billboards at the entrance to the city, on which she ordered to hang inscriptions: "Was raped while she was dying," "No one has been arrested yet?" and "How did it happen, Sheriff Willoughby?".
The technique shown in the film has gained viral popularity — it has been used by activists in other states and countries — often in equally tragic situations in order to draw attention to the problem.
