At the end of August, thousands of people pour out into the streets in cocked hats, with painted moustaches and plastic sabers. Surprisingly, Penzance does not hold the record for the number of participants in a pirate party. This year they got closer to getting into the Guinness Book of Records than ever before, but they screwed up again. The reason for the failure turned out to be very pirated.
At the moment, the record is held by the city of Hastings. At one time, Hastings shuddered at the noise of a costume show featuring 14,231 costumed pirates. In 2014, Penzance seriously encroached on the laurels of the record holder, but did not take 77 people to the competitor's figure.
This time the success was even closer. Last week, the organizers of the festival were in great excitement. It's no joke, a record number of applications were submitted for temporary entry into the ranks of the sea wolves. In order to ensure that the historic achievement did not fail, all the drinking establishments in the central district promised to push out every pirate before the commission starts counting.
